One of the most attractive reasons to save with the Credit Union is the fact the shares are federally insured by the NCUA. It use to be that this insurance only applied to the first $250,000 a person had in their account. In most cases the $250,000 limit was ample coverage but in a few, very lucky cases the coverage was not enough. Recently the NCUA has made it possible to have much more than $250,000 with the Credit Union and still have it be fully insured.
